Whakamahea to Wairua Service - Te Whare Matahauariki is a Kaupapa Māori Forensic Community Residential Intensive Service for Tangata Motuhake. The step-down service provides forensic transitional care for Tangata motuhake—Māori experiencing mental health challenges—as they begin their integration journey back into their community, culture and whānau.

The recovery-oriented community service is a specialist supported accommodation for those who no longer require secure forensic inpatient services. It combines expertise in community residential rehabilitation and Kaupapa Māori service provision in safe, secure, high quality, home-like accommodation.

Referral for Whakamahea to Wairua Service is organised by Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand) Forensic Mental Health & Addiction Community Clinical Team.
