Tena Koutou Katoa, I grew up in Pukerua Bay and started my journey working in Mental Health initially as a Support worker in the early 1990’s, then in the mid-1990s I continued in this role in the Forensic and Rehabilitation Services.
I was supported to become a Registered Comprehensive Nurse by the DHB which I obtained in 2003, I completed my post graduate degree in Mental Health in 2004.
I started my Mental Health nursing career in the Team for Assertive Community Treatment working with tangata whaiora with high needs and poor historical engagement. I started working with the whanau at Te Whare Mārie in 2005 as a Primary Clinician in the Pakeke team. I became the Clinical co ordinator of the Pakeke team in 2009
In 2016 I accepted the postion of Kaiwhakahaere/ Team Leader for both Teams under the mantle of Te Whare Mārie, Pakeke and Child and Adolescents.
I am passionate about improving the outcomes for Tangata Whaiora who endure a Mental Health diagnosis and how to weave Te Ao Maori and Clinical practice together to improve outcomes.
I believe that Services need to work together in a holistic manner to achieve this.
During my first community role I met Blossom Tropman who managed Te Menenga Pai, our relationship grew and I was asked to join the Board of Trustees of which I am now Chair. I am proud to be able to say I had anything to do with the growth and development of this fantastic service.
Personally, I like to read, garden, cook and spend time outside.
